"Changes! We are waiting for changes!" is a famous line from the song "Khochu peremen!" ("I want change") by the iconic Soviet rock band Kino. During the Perestroika, the song took on a distinct political message, and was referred to as the 'Perestroika anthem.'

Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev said the tune “reflected the nation’s desire for change,” when talking about what sparked Soviet reforms.

"Our hearts require changes,
Our eyes require changes,
Into our laugh and our tears,
And into our pulse and veins
Changes!
We are waiting for changes."

Eyewitnesses say they remember hearing “Peremen!” playing at the barricades around the Russian Parliament Building during the August Soviet coup d'état attempt.

Since then, the song has been associated with with various protest movements.
